All types of lasers existing in world practice are used in Hadassah: lasers for the treatment of retinal diseases (such as diabetes and glaucoma), intraocular tumors, correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism using the LASIK method, as well as the latest lasers for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration.

Genetic diagnostics of eye diseases

For more than 15 years, the Hadassah clinic has been carrying out various projects to study the genetic causes of ophthalmic diseases. In Hadassah, specialists were able to determine the genetic causes for more than half of the patients with various eye diseases. Most of them are born sighted, but due to illness they begin to lose their ability to see between the ages of 5 and 20.

A consultation with geneticists is of paramount importance to reduce the prevalence of eye diseases.

State-of-the-art diagnostic imaging unit

Experienced specialists who have completed many years of practice in large foreign centers work in the department. Using the latest methods of optical topography, doctors detect the slightest deviations in the eye structure, which allows to make an accurate diagnosis while the disease has not yet become advanced.

Pediatric ophthalmology: before and after surgery

Before the surgery, an anesthesiologist examines the child and explains to him and his parents the specifics of anesthesia and surgery. You can also watch a presentation prepared by the staff of the center that will help relieve preoperative stress.

The surgeon will also examine the child and schedule the operation. Parents are asked to arrive at the day care one hour before the scheduled surgery time.

Usually, children over six months are given anti-anxiety medication before surgery, as determined by the anesthesiologist.

After the surgery, children remain under medical monitoring in the day care for some time. A few hours after the complete end of the anesthesia, they are discharged home.

Following monitoring and doctor`s appointments are planned depending on the surgery nature. Children who have had intraocular surgery are usually checked the next day. Those who have undergone extraocular surgery are invited for an appointment one to two weeks after the surgery.
